Why Choose Economics?

To change the world, you need to understand it. And to understand it, you need ECONOMICS!

Students taking this course should have an investigative and enquiring mind. During the course we debate global issues; explore and present alternative courses of action; keep up to date with national and international trends; research local, national and international economic and business environments.

What is Involved?

The full A-level has three examination papers, which cover aspects of micro and macroeconomics.

Paper 1 consists of Theme 1 (An introduction markets and market failure) and Theme 4 (A global perspective).

Topics include: The nature of economics; how markets work; market failure; government intervention; international economics; poverty and inequality; emerging and developing economies; the financial sector; role of the state in the macroeconomy.

Paper 2 consists of Theme 2 (The UK economy; performance and policies) and Theme 3 (Business behaviour and the labour market).

Topics include: measures of economic performance; aggregate demand; aggregate supply; national income; economic growth; macroeconomic objectives and policy; business growth; business objectives; revenues, costs and profits; market structures; labour market; government intervention.

Paper 3 requires knowledge and understanding of all four themes based on a pre- released topic.

All papers include live case studies and data response questions.
