Why Choose Religious Studies?
If you enjoy discussions and looking at some of the key philosophical, religious and ethical issues of human existence and how people deal with them, this is the subject for you. You should be interested in the world around you and be able to make links with what you are studying and how it has an impact in the ‘real world’.
What is Involved?
A study of three balanced components (Philosophy, Religion and Ethics).
Philosophy of Religion - arguments for the existence of God and challenges to them; evil and suffering.
Religion - key Christian teachings and practices.
Ethics - how people use different ethical views to make moral decisions (including situation ethics, utilitarianism, natural law) and how this applies to situations today, e.g. using animals for medical research, euthanasia)
Each module will be assessed by a 2 hour examination at the end of the A-level course.
