Exam Board
AQA
Why Choose Textiles?
This A-level has been developed to put a greater emphasis on fashion and to be more relevant to design courses at leading universities and careers in the fashion and textiles industries.
There is a strong academic element which covers materials and industrial applications to prepare you for many courses such as marketing, product development and textiles engineering.
This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives you the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence in your ability. A GCSE in Textiles is the best foundation for A-level study, along with a genuine interest, creative ability and good manufacturing skills. However, we will consider interested students who have not studied Textiles previously and advise them accordingly.
What is Involved?
The course consists of an extended Non Examination Assessment design and manufacturing task worth 50% with theoretical studies forming the remaining 50%.
Over the course, several smaller projects will cover aspects of iterative design techniques to prepare for the Non Examination Assessment task and build on the high levels of skill required.
Theoretical studies will cover all aspects of Textiles through a fashion perspective from fibres, sustainability and uses to new developments and application of these.
An ability to answer written questions with depth and knowledge is essential; keeping up to date with current design, economic and technological advances through independent research will support studies.
Relevant study visits to industrial and design related exhibitions are arranged to provide experience and research for the Non Examination Assessment.
